With the arrival of the new Facebook Timeline I’ve seen several blogs and forums of people complaining that their social game app posts are not showing up in their news feed or Timeline at all for that matter. In fact many are wondering and asking the question, “can I play games at all on the new Facebook Timeline?” Well, of course you can. Let’s not get carried away now. It’s a little confusing the first time you mess with your activity log or apps privacy features because there are actually several ways you can get to your app privacy settings and control what’s being seen, what’s being hidden from view and to whom.
One of Facebook’s main goals was to give the user more control over what posts show up in the cluttered news feed and ticker for everyone to see. Now you have more options at your disposal. For instance, you can choose to have game app posts hidden from your friends completely, have them allowed on your Timeline for the whole world to see, or create a special friend’s list group of gamers who only see these particular app posts. It’s all very convenient, but not so direct.
You can head over to your privacy settings, click edit settings for you apps and websites, edit settings again for apps you use, then click on the app activity privacy. You have several options here to either have these app posts seen or hidden from view.
You can go to your new Timeline activity log and also control these features too. Click on the activity log underneath your Facebook cover in your Timeline go to the app activity you would like to edit. There is a circle to the far right of the app that has the drop down option “allowed on Timeline” and “hidden from Timeline”. You can delete posts or even remove the app entirely from your account.
