Comedian Steven Wrightwas already tweeting 25 years ago and didn’t even realize it. His humorous quips were basically tweets, but not within the context of social microblogging or tweeting on twitter; the internet wasn’t around back then of course. They were short one liners that bordered on the weird or bizarre and many of them fit the description of a 140 characters or less (tweet). Read some of these quotes below and tell me if these could be tweets.
How do you tell when you’re out of invisible ink?
Why do psychics have to ask you for your name?
If at first you don’t succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.
went to the hardware store and bought some used paint. It was in the shape
of a house. I also bought some batteries, but they weren’t included.
A friend of mine once sent me a post card with a picture of the entire planet
Earth taken from space. On the back it said, “Wish you were here.”
Listening to his old material today you would think his style of humor is tailored made for tweeting. Well , now the lucky few who admire his comedic style will get to follow his tweets as Steven Wright has recently started tweeting around 2 months ago on March 3rd.
No one really knows why the long delay but his tweeting debut is a good one, and it looks like he has found an interesting way to utilize the art of tweeting. Mr. Wright has decided to tell a story one tweet at a time. The protagonist of his narrative is a small boy named Harold. Steven starts out his first tweet with a rather simple introduction with very little insight on how his story will develop.
However, by the 4th tweet things start to get a little interesting:
