Co-founder Jack Dorsey fired off the first tweet on March 21, 2006 “”Inviting coworkers,” 5 years later he will be tweeting again. For the next two weeks Jack Dorsey will be tweeting about Twitter’s origins. According to recently released statistics Twitter sends out over 1 billion tweets a week. This number is expected to grow exponentially as tweeting and Twitter continue to catch on globally.
Big events and big celebrities (Japan Earthquakesand Charlie Sheen) are also having a huge impact on Twitter.
The devastating earthquakes in Japan promoted a single day sign-up account record of 572,000. Mobile users are skyrocketing and Twitter is making no bones about it. It wants to grow exponentially in the mobile market. In a recent news story Jack Dorsey points out that mobile ease and communications was the intended original function of Twitter.
Celebrities are also having a huge impact on Twitter. Never is this more evident in the rising success of one celebrity named Charlie Sheen. He was catapulted quickly into the Twittersvere after tweeting his first tweet on March 1st, 2011. Since then Sheen has been working over Twitter ever since gaining popularity every day. He amassed over 1 million followers in a day. His tweets have now become stuff of legend. You can now find hear funny and memorable tweets, quotes and catchphrases be spoken all over the country. Twitter grows even more.
