This is another fantastic Google Doodle sitting above Google’ search box today on October 1st, 2013. Google is celebrating the 123rd Anniversary of the Yosemite National Park with a variety of patches and colors mingled together with some other features including a silhouette bear, a black and white mountain in featured front and center in the second “o” of Google, rock climbing, starry clear mountain nights, a JMT sign and a Junior Ranger.
There is a sad twist of irony here as with this Google Doodle on October 1, 2013 comes also the government shutdown. There will be lots of searches for Yosemite National Park including its famous landmarks, tourist attractions, and illustrious and unique history. But one has to wonder if the timing of this Google Search Doodle has something to do with the current government shutdown as certain federal offices and organizations are closed and many federal workers are being furloughed at many of these same places.
But is the Yosemite National Park open or closed right now during the government shutdown?
Unfortunately this latest Google Doodle was either intentional or rift with bad timing. The current government shutdown starting tonight at 12:01 a.m. has forced all federal or national parks to close, subsequently; therefore, the Yosemite National Park is also closed.
One can only speculate why Google released this Doodle right when they knew the National Park was closing.
So what is in the Yosemite Google Doodle search logo? Here are some more general things related to Yosemite that are featured in the Doodle:
- For example, what mountain is that featured in the Google Yosemite search logo (the yellow, black and white patch looking shape with the bear at the bottom)? More than likely this mountain with its distinct look and contours is Half Dome. Half Dome is considered the most popular and visually recognizable rock formation in Yosemite National Park.
- The JMT is the John Muir Trail stretches out over 37 miles of track through Yosemite National Park.
- Yosemite also has a Junior Ranger program as indicated in the child ranger logo on the right.
- Yosemite is also home to some of the largest trees in the world as indicated by the tall sky reaching trees featured on the left side of the Google Doodle.
Can you play the Yosemite National Park Google Doodle Search Logo or more specifically, is the Yosemite Google Search Logo interactive? No, this is not an interactive Google Doodle, just a point and click results page with information about the Yosemite National Park.
