Pottermore Opening Soon, Find Out When Here

So what’s the latest news on Pottermore for people who may be asking themselves, “why can’t I get into Pottermore?” People are getting antsy and want to know when Pottermore will be open to everybody, the non-beta testers or the general public?  If your wondering when can I register on Pottermore so I can  get into Pottermore then your not alone. In fact, as the weeks pass more and more people are waiting, some impatiently,  for answers to these important questions.

So here’s Pottermore’s status as of November 14th, 2011 with a little provided background information.

One million people were scheduled to beta test Pottermore for about 2 months. Well, that was the original plan devised by Pottermore. Plans change of course. First, the beta testers ended up being around 650,000 or so to begin with. They test piloted the site for several months starting in mid-August. They, and I was one of them, encountered quite a bit of problems, bugs, glitches and other issues in the realm of technical difficulties.

So much so that Pottermore decided to extend the beta period through October. This nixed their prior plan to open up Pottermore to the public sometime in October. During this month they released a survey and got some important feedback on what beta users thought about Pottermore. According to the Pottermore Insider they got quite a lot of info, especially the last question.  Beta testers basically wrote down what they felt was lacking from the site.

In early November Pottermore took the site down for several days to make some needed changes. Many of us, the beat testers, believed the changes would be both performance and technical. As the site went live again several days later we were greeted with a similar site in almost all aspects.

The Pottermore Insider announced on their blog that they had made some significant hardware changes to the site in order to tweak performance issues first.  The goal here was to make the site run smoothly with enhanced speed and stability.

As we stand now Pottermore is now extending the beta period indefinitely as they go about making further changes to the site which might include suggestions and comments made by thousands of beta testers. This testing period could be extended weeks or months, hopefully not months.

People’s reaction to Pottermore has been overwhelming and surely underestimated by everyone involved with this project. Pottermore may have not anticipated these things and performance deficiencies. In the long run Pottermore is trying to fix the site and enhance it’s playability and functionality so ultimately users will want to keep coming back again and again.

As of now Pottermore is not open to the pubic. Only beta testers have access to the site for further testing. Stay tuned to tweeting.com for any updates announcing the opening of Pottermore to the public.

One more important thing. Pottermore has decided to stagger new registrants as they did with beta testers. Only letting in a few thousand at any one time period. It will be more like a gradual admittance of people over a long period of time.

So once you register you might not get your Welcome email letter right away. In fact Pottermore has stated you might have to wait several days, weeks or even months before getting full access to Pottermore.

Just remember that everyone will be able to register but not everyone who registers will get into Pottermore right away.

In the meantime while your waiting please feel free to visit the Pottemoreforum.net. The forum has a collection of Pottermore Fans from all over the world all discussing the topic of Pottermore. You can get answers to questions here or news reports as they come in. Plus there is an art gallery, secret houses, fan fiction, role play, new Pottermore classes like potion brewing and astronomy, house and individual competitions, real live chat and signature requests.

I’ve been on the Pottermore website a few times and I can’t see anywhere to register on the home page. Is anyone else having this problem? I’m an avid Harry Potter fan and I would love to participate in Pottermore but I have no idea how to register. If someone could help me then it would be fantastic!

You won’t be able to register for a while. Pottermore is still in beta period where a select few are pilot testing the site still. Check back here at tweeting for when it open to everyone. I’ll post a article as soon as it does. Shouldn’t be too much longer.

Don’t bother. I registered when it first came out and am still not even a beta tester. I love the movies and the books, but this is leaving quite a bitter taste in my mouth.

Only people who are participated in the beta survey have access to Pottermore. As for the rest of us there is no way to register yet. We have to wait until Pottermore decides there is no more glitches, (which may take a while). So for now there is no where we can register.

Well, I hope that Pottermore doesn’t wait until ALL the glitches are gone, because every website has glitches. I can understand if they need to make sure they will be able to handle the tens millions of users who wish to try the site out. However, beyond performance capacity, I see no reason to hold out.

I made an account for Pottermore soon after it opened. Does that mean I’m one of the beta testers? Also, what happened? I forgot the information I had registered with, and they said they would send me back the info! Months….nothing.

Please come back Pottermore. I want to be apart of your website!

Would LOVE to know how they went about choosing members. It seems every single person who has bought a lot of replicas and does viewings on youtube is a member of Pottermore! Then there’s people like me who bought the first book when it was released, before all the Potter mania, long term fans, had no chance. Hmm!

You had to answer a question…my housemates did it…they’re both long time fans. I’m a long term fan as well, but I didn’t answer the question thingy (I know…a really technical term) so I am not registered…

Oh my gosh, I know what you mean! My sister got into Beta, but it’s over. They have all been chosen. Now the non-Beta’s have to just wait untill the website has no glitches. And trust me, it was really hard to be a Beta. Literally she was up at three in the morning checking the website. I’m glad I didn’t do it. Check tweeting.com to get more information when it might be free to the public.

Pottermore selected it’s beta testers based off of the winners of the ‘magic quill challenge’ who utilized their activation e-mail. Natalie is right, it was hard to win the challenge, I remember camping out in front of my laptop until 4:00 AM with nothing but the Harry Potter books and movies to keep me company until the clue went up. Long time fan or not, those conditions aren’t for everyone.

On top of that you needed to wait for an activation e-mail, so if you passed the magic quill challenge and still weren’t selected for beta you probably either

A. Didn’t check your email in time – the link expires
B. Didn’t check your junk mail – the letter is sometimes sent there
C. Entered in your email incorrectly – Don’t roll your eyes it was incredibly late for some fans

I still really hope that Pottermore will be open to the public soon, it bothers me having an account when none of my friends do, it’s no fun we can’t get sorted together or compete in wizard duels or any of the community aspects of Harry Potter. At this point the bugs are few, I haven’t encountered one for awhile- hopefully the people in charge will take this information into account and open Pottermore ASAP.

Any word on when it comes open to the public yet?

We have no idea when it will open. Pottermore Insider hasn’t updated their blog since Jan 25th, over a month ago.

i cant register to pottermore! can someone help?

Reply

Lisa February 28, 2012 at 1:21 pm

They’re currently still in a closed beta. Only the selected beta testers have access to the site. They are not allowing new people to register on the site until the site is opened to the public, and they haven’t announced when that will be. Seeing as it was originally supposed to be opened way back in October and it is now February, it might be months still until they open it to the public. :/ Unfortunately.

Is it just me that thinks its dying off, they havent updated their blog and people I know that have beta say that people are getting tired of the same people in the place and that their friends cant join, so they’ve stopped going on it?
Its been how many months since the last film came out, so it should be open now. And, someone said it was to be open by October last year. Well, what happened to that? Apparently, all the glitches are gone but (like every online thing) it can be slow, but they can play around it? We should be let in by now, seenas its March and it WAS supposed to be open by [the end of] last year.

Reply

Hugh April 10, 2012 at 12:31 am

Its now the 10th of April and the last day of “early” April and Pottermore is still not open to all. I’ve been looking every morning and afternoon for the registration area and nothing. England is 11 hours behind Australia and when it does open I’ll be asleep. Tomorrow will be “mid” April and its so frustrating.

Why didn’t they employ competent web designers to setup this web site? It is quite apparent, judging by how long this has been delayed, that the people responsible don’t have a clue.
