Did Charlie Sheen really quit Twitter? In a not so unexpected move the once king of tweet slogans and catchphrases has closed his Twitter account. Take a look for yourself @charliesheen and see Sheen tweets no longer.
What was Charlie Sheen’s last and final tweet? “reach for the stars everyone. dogspeed cadre. c out.”
I was there in March of 2011 when Charlie Sheen lit up Twitter with some famous tweets, sayings, slogans, catchphrases and hashtags for weeks and months as he became embattled in a somewhat self indulged war of words with Two and a Half Men producer Chuck Lorre.
I was there when Sheen tweeted his first tweet: “Winning..! Choose your Vice” #winning
I was there when he announced to the world in a Today Show interview that he was a “warlock with Tiger Blood and Adonis DNA” flowing through his veins. #tigerblood.
Who could not forget this audacity of this statement during that same Today Show interview: “I’m tired of pretending like I’m not special. I’m tired of pretending like I’m not a total bitchin’ rock star from Mars.”
Only Sheen can explain this nonsensical tirade in what’s now famously known as “The Sheen Interview, Explaining His Actions-It’s All Passion” on ABC Good Morning America:
“I am on a drug, It’s called Charlie Sheen. It’s not available because if you try it, you will die. Your face will melt off, and your children will weep over your exploded body.”
And it doesn’t stop there.
Sheen’s #wordsmithing talents spurn these memorable hashtags on Twitter for weeks:
and of course the popular #winning, #notwinning, #epic, and #epicwinning
Sheen turned Twitter and the art of tweeting into his own personal playground of cryptic sayings, slogans, catchphrases, and ambiguous jests. It was something to behold.
Sheen later went on his failed ” Torpedo of Truth” tour, proceeded to trademark his catchphrases and continued to tweet crazy sayings on Twitter, albeit not at the excessive pace he had previously been doing for week’s prior.
But then the actor took a pause and slowed down. The catchphrases we so loved and cherished pretty much stopped. While he continued to tweet his message was dry and withdrawn. All of a sudden winning wasn’t a part of everyday conversation in homes and offices.
Just recently Sheen had confessed in hindsight that he wasn’t really winning last year after all.
In a recent Rolling Stones interview he admitted….
“Clearly, a guy gets fired, his relationships are in the toilet, he’s off on some f—— tour, there’s nothing ‘winning’ about any of that. I mean, how does a guy who’s obviously quicksanded, how does he consider any of it a victory? I was in total denial.”
Now here we wondering today, “why did Charlie Sheen quit Twitter?” There could be many answers to this question. Speculation abounds. Did he want to forget and bury a part of his embarrassing past? Did he want to erase hundreds of incriminating tweets that stood as proof of his erratic behavior? Was this a well-planned PR gimmick. There are lots of questions but very few answers at this point.
I’ve written dozens of articles on the Charlie Sheen Twitter phenomenon on Tweeting and must say it was a quite unique experience. We will probably never see anything quite like this again on Twitter or the Internet for that matter.
But let’s be clear, this story had died almost a year ago. Sheen moved on with his career by staying mostly out of the spotlight. He signed on to a new show (Anger Management) and aired out his deplorable past behavior in recent interviews.
At this point no one knows exactly why Charlie Sheen quit Twitter. And is it forever?
And if Sheen suddenly returns to Twitter one day then we welcome him back.
Maybe, just maybe, Charlie Sheen is winning after all. No hashtag necessary.
