Will Pottermore open in December or even next year in 2012?

Pottermore Opening Soon, Find Out When Here

Pottermore has been working feverishly behind the scenes for several months during the beta stage as they try to stabilize the site to get ready to welcome millions of more users. But the big question most people are wondering is will Pottermore be open to the public in December for the holidays? Or, even more pressing, if Pottermore won’t open in December then when will Pottermore open next year in 2012?

I’m sure everyone would like these all important questions to be answered soon. The Pottermore beta period was originally scheduled to end sometime in late October but with heavy use from its users the beta registrants exposed some serious technical and bug issues.  My guess is they were a lot more serious and unexpected than Pottermore was anticipating. The servers were having difficulty throughout the initial beta period shutting down and kicking people off, the moments were not working properly sometimes and were known to be buggy, wizard dueling shutdown and potion brewing has some script issues.

So how much longer will the Pottermore beta period go on? Due to all these technical problems Pottermore with good reason decided to extend the beta period indefinitely. At one time in early November they shut the site down to work on the hardware issues for several days. Since then the site has been mostly stable; however, people still are having the occasional issue.

Pottermore’s blog has not given anymore updates in recent weeks on when the site will be open to the public. The beta users were able to complete a survey recently that allowed them to comment on various things about Pottermore.  The Pottermore staff has supposedly taken these things into account for future upgrades and changes to the site. But, we don’t know exactly what they will be changing, adding or deleting.  This is still a mystery.

As for the non-beta users or the general public it would seem plausible that Pottermore could open in December.  The reason being Pottermore has decided with the wisdom they have received from the beta experience to stagger in the new users over a long period of time, sort of similar to the beta period. This means that new users can register but might not be able to get into Pottermore for days, weeks or even months.

However, it is also possible that December is still too early to open up Pottermore if the changes they are making are numerous and demand more testing as they might be taxing the site even more.  Wizard dueling, for example,  has been down for months and is still not up and running.

With November almost over here’s hoping that Pottermore will deliver a Christmas gift to the world and open its doors to the public sometime during the month. Until then we just have to sit back and wait.

So I’m analyzing this blog for a class, and I find it amazing!! Your different theories about Pottermore really interest me!!! I’m lucky to be on the beta side, but it still stinks a lot that the general public can’t access Pottermore.

Thanks for posting this it answered a lot of my questions! I didn’t get in at the beta sign-up so it has been bugging me for a while because I expected it to open in October

i am so pissed off at every beta user and j.k when the hell will they open pottermore

It’s not really the beta users fault, and Jo probably wasn’t anticipating the bugs either, so you really shouldn’t blame them.

Pottermore should be opening up soon. Then just go to their site and register. I’ll post something as soon it becomes available. Until then if non-betas will have to wait.

Ugh! They said they’d open it at the start of October, 2011, and it’s freaking January 2012! I bet we’ve waited all these months and it turns out crap. It’s really pissing me off that they keep pushing the date further and further forward. Hell, we’ll all be dead for a hundred years before they open it.
Stupid beta users. They’ve had long enough to draw their freaking art and enjoy Pottermore to themselves. LET THE PEOPLE WHO DON’T STAY AWAKE UNTIL 3 IN THE MORNING TO GET IN EARLY HAVE A TURN, WON’TCHA??!!!

It IS quite annoying that it won’t open, but it’s not the beta user’s faults! They just know an awful lot about Harry Potter ;)
I think that they’re doing this, maybe because if everyone stops checking to see if it’s open because they sort of forget about it, like I have, when it actually opens to the public, not as many people will go in at the same time, and too many people on one website, we all know, means the website crashes, and I don’t think Pottermore would risk another crash.

So, Layla, if you don’t stay awake until 3 in the morning, then why did you post that comment at 1:50 am…I know that there’s a few hours difference but still… it’s late… or early….. and I want the site to open too, but we can’t do anything about it besides blog so whats the point?

There are things called timezones. Layla might have posted that at 5:50 PM her time, which could be 1:50 AM for you. The times are shown in your timezone, not the original poster’s

Ok I’m annoyed. Pottermore was supposed to open in October 2011 it’s now nearly Febuary 2012. They kept changing the damn times first it’s October, then it’s November and then it’s December. I mean the beta user have been on since August. I mean they should stick to a date and keep to it. I mean I know you have to be patience but this is getting ridiculous. I mean they can’t be having that much trouble if beta users are on it. Now I know it’s not the beta users fault and I’m a really patience person but this is really starting to annoy me and IF they do open it and it turns out to be rubbish then I will be pissed.

Reply

MissMe February 27, 2012 at 9:31 pm

It’s not JK’s fault. It’s the people who are making it happen.

Lilyan February 1, 2012 at 7:03 am

As much as I’d love to say that we should try giving a little more patience, I won’t since this whole waiting game is starting to piss me off. Sure, it’s not the beta’s fault, but I’m thinking that those months should have already been enough to cover up the bugs the beta users have found out. Makes me wonder what other stuff they’re trying to tweak. Probably the chapters.

I think that Pottermore never be opened to public. I have won the account in one of the potterhead’s competitions, but I haven’t found at Pottermore something interesting after the sorting hat ceremony and I’m not understand how guys can spend here so many hours.

If they can’t get the site up, why can’t we at least have the digital editions of the books in the meantime? I’d like to be able to reread the books on my Nook while we’re waiting for them to get this long overdue website up and running!

Junque February 27, 2012 at 7:02 am

This is the only reason I wanted on the site, agree with you. I just want the ebooks.

Tammy February 2, 2012 at 7:45 am

I think they should kick all of the beta users off and choose another group of beta users so that some other people get a chance to get on to Pottermore. It seems really unfair that the same group of people is on it constantly. They have had exclusive access for over 5 months. I keep seeing all of the fan art, and hearing about the improvements and upgrades being made. None of it matters since I have no idea what’s on the website. What a huge disappointment. So many people are angry and losing interest, and the same beta users just continue to have the site all to themselves. What a joke.

I’m a beta user and I’ve already seen everything there is to see. I saw it all within about a week. The beta users have been waiting also to be able to go on to other stuff in potter more because we’ve only been able to explore book 1. It’s got some interesting information about it, but c’mon, everybody has been waiting for months and months to be able to access the rest of pottermore, and i do want it to be open to everyone now. I haven’t been on pottermore in probably 4 weeks and it’s just the same as it was last time i checked it. no updates. But in reality, the beta users don’t have much of a head start on everyone else. once they finally open it up to everyone, then you’ll explore it fairly quickly.

I am with KCH. There is “Pottermore” (whatever that is and really who cares?) and there the is digital availability of the books. Why people waiting to simply purchase ebooks are being delayed by the opening of a stupid website is beyond me.

Ben Curran February 4, 2012 at 8:21 am

I agree with KCH too. Please, please can we have the digital books NOW. Why not via amazon and kindle JK????????

Jess February 8, 2012 at 8:47 am

I feel like a child but; it actually isn’t fair. It has nearly been 8 months since the Beta users were allowed to use there login’s and the general public, other people that love Harry Potter just as much has not had a chance to have a say on what could be improved. I understand that there may have been problems with the site, but surely when it does finally go live, there will be a crash on the system as there will be so many people who cannot wait for this website – as we all feel as though it keeps the story alive. I am sure a lot of people that would appreciate a more solid update on when we should expect Pottermore to go live online.

I can’t help but notice that Sony is involved. As with anything Sony, it’s going to take forever and not work properly. After I got my PS3 I found myself regularly lamenting that Sony never misses an opportunity to make me wait. It seems that this truth spills into all of their endeavors and not just video games.

I have only become a harry potter fan as of late last year as i had never seen the movies until then.. it just didnt interest me y’know.. but seeing the movies i am now just as obsessed as everyone else and i think that opening it to the public would be great. but they are just trying to get it perfect so when you do get it opened up. you can enjoy it with out hassles.

Seems like the people who made Pottermore at first did a bad job of it, or they announced it too early with no trying it. I’m bored of waiting for this thing.

There I was, about to sign in to some new game called Pottermore. I had followed all the steps and couldn’t believe that I was one of the million other Harry Potter fans that would get to be on this game. All of a sudden my sister comes and tells me that I shouldn’t sign up to it because all I will do will be getting a bunch of lame advertisments in my email. I followed my trusted sister’s word. Jerk. Now I watched my friend (in Beta) play pottermore and realized what a fun game it is. I hate my sister.

How much longer is this! I know they are fixing and making new improvements, but it is WAY after the deadline now! Please someone, anyone; tell them to get the website starting!!!!

Why can’t they give a date?! FIX ALL THE BUGS SOON PLEASE! Also, why do they have to make fancy improvements now? Why can’t they let everyone on and then make the fancy improvements?!

So ive just got hold of some information stating they’ve set themselves a deadline to finish Pottermore and make it available to all users by december 2015. The reason being laziness, lack of commitment and procrastination, an official statememt from Sony proclaims “we are a bunch of mug heads and dont give a damn about this pottermore so perhaps we can get away with not doing it because teenagers behind keyboards can’t do anything about it”

Reply

MissMe February 27, 2012 at 9:34 pm

I don’t understand what “beta” means. Is that just the people who work on the site? Or is it people who signed up for it immediately and they can use it, but people who didn’t now have to wait?

Also, are we really going to have to wait until December? I have been waiting for a year now I think.

Hello there! Beta testing is like a trial run for the Pottermore website. They play on the site and give them feedback about what they think and how they can improve. I have been waiting a long time to and it is March 1, 2012 tomorrow and the site is still not open to the public. I somewhat agree with some posts saying that if we would all be in the pottermore site that it would crash from all the problems it has and pottermore would be no more. The thing that i dont understand is, how on earth can they have that many problems over this year or so span of time. I sometimes wonder if they tested the site before ever opening it to the beta testers. If you would like you can join the Pottermore Fan Forum website at pottermoreforum.net. It may not be the pottermore we are wish and hoping to get into soon but it is still a fun website. You can take classes and talk to others. I am only a first year there but it has been fun because to me this is as close to pottermore as i am going to get. If pottermore waits any longer they will only have the beta testers on that site because everyone would have giving up.

I just Googled for free Harry Potter ebooks and got the U.S. versions of all seven books in PDF in a single zip file. Hell, they can’t say what I did was unfair competition when no competition exists as a result of their refusal to allow people to obtain digital editions of Harry Potter in the legitimate market.
